"Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you."
--Misty Copeland
My spiritual path has been a rather eclectic one. I was christened Catholic, raised Southern Baptist, and baptized Presbyterian before I gave up religion for 10 years and joined the "nones" (although I was more of a "No thank you").
Then I discovered New Thought and graduated from the Unity Spiritual Education and Enrichment program.
But I wasn't done. In 2014, I graduated with my Master's of Divinity from Iliff School of Theology, which is Methodist.

It was while I was at Iliff that I discovered where my circuitous path was leading me all along -- a Catholic tradition called

Spiritual Companionship,
taught by the Benedictine nuns at the Benet Hill Monastery.
Through the Benet Hill program, I learned how to be "a compassionate listener of those who seek healing through Divine connection."

Or as St. Benedict taught, to "listen with the ears of [my] heart."
When I first heard of it, I thought, "Why do I need someone to listen to me?
People already listen to me. . . . I mean, not my kid and not my [eventually to be ex] husband, but my friends listen to me, and we talk about everything."

But listening in Spiritual Companionship is different.
Yes, your Spiritual Companion listens to you, but that's not where the listening ends.

You both also listen for whatever it is you call that
little voice that knows
-- Spirit, God, higher self, inner wisdom.
And you also begin to listen to yourself.

To the stories you tell and don't tell.

To the "throwaway" phrases that you don't "really" mean but kinda do.

To the wishes and desires of your heart.
And then something miraculous occurs.

You are heard.

Your dreams are heard.

Your truest voice is heard.

And room is made for transformation.
"We don't have to do all of it alone.
We were never meant to."
--Brene Brown
